ORIGIN OF POKER
Introduction:
There are huge debates in relation to the origin of poker. Some people are of the view that the game of poker has a close resemblance to the Iranian game of “As Nas” and was passed through the New Orleans Settlers, by the Persian sailors. The name most likely came down from the Irish word “Poca”. It is believed by some people that, the name “poker” originated from the French word “poque”. The game of poker is believed to have common ancestry with the “primero”, the renaissance game and also, the French game which was known by the name “brelan” at that time. There are high possibilities of all these names to have highly influenced the development of poker game.
Real Origins:
It was first reported by the English actor Joseph Crowell that, the game was played in the city of New Orleans, in the year 1829. The game of poker began with the deck comprising of 20 cards as well as four players. The rise of the game was described by the book written by Jonathan H Green, which was named “The Exposure of the Arts and Miseries of Gambling’. The book specifically brought to light, the dispersion of the game from there to the other nations with the help of riverboats from Mississippi.
